The Olympic Peninsula is simply gorgeous. You get to start off for any adventure by deciding if you want to explore the coast or the mountains.

We have compiled a list of 5 of our favorite day trips around the area. Have company coming to visit and want to take them somewhere they will always remember? Live here and haven’t taken a moment to enjoy these places? Looking for must-sees when you come to the area? These are for you!

Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park

The view from this place has to be witnessed to truly appreciate it’s glory. The drive is a windy 17 miles from Port Angeles, Washington. As you drive into Olympic National Park and up the mountain, you get a just slight glimpse of what is to come once you reach the top. Get ready to enjoy a breathtaking view once you arrive!

For some things to know before your visit to Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park read our full post with all the details.

Whale Watching Tour with Island Adventures

A whale-watching excursion with Island Adventures Whale Watching Tours is hands down one of my most favorite things we have done as a family since moving to the Olympic Peninsula. Want to see Orcas or Humpback whales? We saw both!

The tour is about 4 hours, which before taking to the water I have to admit I was a bit worried about how the kids were going to do. Alas, four hours flew by and no one was ready to come home. Full post on our experience here.

Dungeness Spit + Wildlife Refuge

The Dungeness Spit is a perfect family-friendly outing for a summer day on the Olympic Peninsula. Pack a little picnic, put on hiking shoes, check the tide schedule, make sure you have $3 cash and you are set. We had some wonderful family pictures done @ Dungeness Spit to really capture the PNW vibe for our Christmas cards this year. Read about our day here.

Salt Creek Recreation Area

One of the many hidden gems of the Olympic Peninsula is Salt Creek Recreation Area. The Pacific Northwest has some of the most beautiful coastal shorelines we have ever witnessed.

Salt Creek Recreation Area is no exception. It offers dramatic rocky coastal water views, an expansive sandy beach, and a backdrop of rugged, snowcapped mountain peaks. Check out all the things you can do here.

Neah Bay + Cape Flattery

Looking for an unforgettable trip to one of the most picturesque, beautiful beaches and coastlines in the Pacific Northwest?

We highly suggest a visit to Cape Flattery (the northwestern-most point in the US) and Hobuck Beach in Neah Bay, Washington. Learn more about the area in our post.

Where are you going to explore first? These are just a few of our faves. Do you have places you think others would love to explore? Share a comment below! Enjoy the Olympic Peninsula.
