Our Journey

Blood, sweat, and tears

U-haul is still not here.  No big deal right?  Wrong.  They were supposed to deliver 5 U-boxes two hours ago.  We anxiously await their arrival and patience is starting to run thin.  Henry and Claire try to entertain themselves by making a bus out of leftover moving boxes since most of their prized possessions are secured in boxes waiting to be loaded.

Kileigh and I pace the room and look out the window every other minute.  After waiting for 2 hours past the scheduled delivery time patience has run out and a call to U-haul is placed to check on the status of the U-boxes. More waiting, more phone calls, and still no idea when, if ever, the U-boxes will arrive.  Enough is enough. U-boxes are cancelled. Kileigh makes a quick call to Pods and informs me that we will be filling up two large moving Pods within a few hours.

Sure enough, Pods show up as promised and now the real work begins.  If you have never been to southeast Texas in August consider yourself lucky.  It’s not just a little uncomfortable, its downright HOT.  And really humid.  I tend to sweat a little so I know that the task that now lays before me is going to produce some perspiration.  As I open the door and step outside the heat and humidity creates sweat beads instantly.  Great.  I haven’t even lifted a box and I am already sweating.  I knew loading the Pods with all of our earthly possessions would be a chore and boy am I right.

The kids head out to play with their cousins so Kileigh and I can knock out the packing a little faster.  I know they are having fun playing at aunt Kaitie’s and packing is going quicker but to be honest, I miss the excuse of going to check on them so I can take advantage of the air conditioner.  After a few hours and avoiding heat stroke and fatal dehydration the first Pod is full.  Video proof here!

A cold shower, a few hours of sleep, and way more time than I would have ever imagined, Pod number two is loaded with everything but our bed and a few essential items that will have to wait to be loaded until the next morning.  After 5 hours of sleep, a change of clothes, and a quick half dozen or so trips to the Pod with the last remaining items and the packing is complete.  Just in the nick of time.  Pods arrives on schedule and takes away our containers to be stored until we are ready to settle down in our new home.

Kileigh, the kids, and I are ready to hit the road after sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming the house in preparation for its new owner.  Its hard to say goodbye to the house that we all loved so much but we are excited to see where we will end up.
