Olympic Peninsula,  Our Journey

Feels Like Home To Me.

Ten years ago, in front of our most precious friends and family,  for the first time as a married couple, Levi and I danced to the song “Feels Like Home” by Chantel Kreviazuk.  Who knew how perfect this song was going to be for the life we have built together??  It feels like home by each others side (and now our two kiddos), no matter where we are, be it Montana, Texas, Washington, or on the road. There is such comfort being best friends with someone who will make everything ok (just like being home should feel), even in those moments you feel defeated.

HOWEVER, after living in hotels or vacation rentals for the last months it really is exciting to find a house to rent long term.  Putting our personal touch on a house to make it feel like a place we are truly connected to, a physical home.  Our space to create memories, develop a commitment to being here in the moment and cultivating friendships and a sense of community.

Before our PODS were delivered we were lucky enough to have been gifted used beds, a couch, kitchen odds and ends, and a TV from family.  Many of the real essentials of every day living were covered.  In order to make our rental feel homey in the interim the four of us loaded up and ventured to the store to pick out a few personalized items.  The kiddos picked out bright colorful bedding, bath bombs, a Shopkins toothbrush holder, Paw Patrol soap dispenser, and place mats.  Levi and I bought new fluffy pillows and towels, fresh sheets, a coffee pot, and Fall decor.  Adding these few simple items to our household gave it just a little of our personality making it feel like our space and easily bridged the gap until our old stuff arrived.

Waiting for our belongings to be delivered reminded me of being a kid again on Christmas Eve.  The anticipation of seeing, feeling, and being surrounded in our pictures, the kids artwork, our comforter, the dishes we have had since we were married, my bedroom set, all the things!!  Even though I wouldn’t classify myself as a stuff person, I was shocked at how much I was anticipating getting our stuff here and unpacking.  Moving in officially!!

It is still too raw to type about the condition our boxes and belongings arrived to our house.  That will have to be a later post, but lets just say it was not Christmas morning as most everything was damaged by the “professional” moving company we hired.  Now putting that aside, most of our belongings are here and it is glorious.  Our family pictures are hanging in the living room, we are cooking meals in our pots and pans, serving dinner on our dishes, the kids artwork is lining the hallway, and our closets are full of clothes.

October is the beginning of birthdays in our family and holiday season has begun.  The timing of being all moved in and settled couldn’t have come at a better time.  We even hosted Henry’s 3rd birthday party in our home last night with new friends.
