Our Journey

Boxes, boxes, and more boxes!

I have yet to meet anyone that enjoys the “art” of moving. I mean really, sorting through every single item you have collected over the years.  Deciding what to keep, donate, trash, or sell.  Then like a game of Tetris trying to fit it all in boxes, that then have to fit into the square footage of a storage unit.  BRUTAL!

We started packing our least used items, so everything we had shoved into the closets, and are steadily making our way to the most used room in the house, the kitchen.  Looking around this evening we have everything off the walls, our couches and dining room table have sold, most of the toys are packed, shelves are cleared, and really it just looks like a messy house.  There is not much of us left here, other then well us, but you know what I am getting at right?  No more family pictures on the wall, the dinosaur kingdom set up on the living room floor isn’t there to step over, no L.O.L. dolls lined up just so in my daughters room, even dirty clothes overflowing the laundry room is missing.  I know this means we are getting closer to our trip, but I can’t help but feel the sadness of saying goodbye to our home.

This week I got to work on a little project that I have had in mind for awhile.  I went to the Post Office and picked up 4 large flat rate shipping boxes.  While packing up the kiddos books and toys I pulled some of the favorites, the ones I couldn’t imagine them not being able to play with for a month.  I then took those toys, tried to sort an even amount for both of them (guaranteed there will be counting and comparing of  who got what) and then shoved all I could into each of the boxes.  Now all I need to do is pick 4 stops along our road trip to ship these boxes.  Having them waiting for us to arrive,  it is my hope that opening a box full of their goodies will help these two little ones feel attached, have a sense of stability and connection to these places that are not yet home.
